The two-day Asian Games International Media Forum came to a close at the Media Hotel and Towers in Jakarta on Tuesday evening following a hectic programme in co-host cities Jakarta and Palembang.

The forum was attended by 128 delegates from 21 countries, including media officers from National Olympic Committees and members of media organisations that will be attending the OCA’s 18th Asian Games in Indonesia next year.

The final stop on the tour was the Athletes’ Village at Kemayoran in north Jakarta. Construction of the 10 towers in two blocks began on March 17, 2016, and work is on schedule, according to the Ministry of Public Works and Housing.

The main focus now is the fitting out of the apartments and the landscaping of the grounds within the complex, including the International Zone where the Team Welcome Ceremonies will be held.

There are a total of 7,426 apartments measuring 36 sq metres. Each apartment includes air conditioning, a water heater, two bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, bathroom and laundry area, and will be suitable for three people.

The apartments in the 10 towers will be able to accommodate a maximum of 22,278 residents, although the expected occupancy is 14,000 athletes and officials for the Asian Games.

The 18th Asian Games will run from August 18 to September 2, 2018, and, after the games, the flats will be used for the low-income people of Jakarta, the lower middle-class and for slum relocation, according to a press release from the Public Communication Directorate, General Housing Provision of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing.
