One of the main activities set out in this year is to prepare for 4 big events: The 2nd Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China (YOG2) from August 16th – 28th; The 17th Asian Games in Incheon, Korea from September 9th – October 4th; The 4th Asian Beach Games in Phuket, Thailand from November 14th – 21st; and The Asian- Pacific Paralympics Games in Korea. In addition, VOC will pay more attention on managing foreign affairs, training experts and educating Olympism, especially implementing organization plans for the 18th Asian Games in 2019 (ASIAD 18) and the 5th Asian Beach Games in 2016.

To complete the outlined activities, the master plans for hosting these events were adopted. A number of goals has also been set, such as winning 5-6 medals in YOG 2 (2 gold medals, 3-4 bronze medals). According to Mr. Lam Quang Thanh, up to January 26th, 2014, Vietnam has 4 athletes in Rowing and Weightlifting who have qualified to participate in this Games. Meanwhile at the 17th Asian Games, Vietnam is expected to participate with 350 members ( 250 athletes in 22 subjects ) , striving to win 2 to 3 gold medals, and a ranking between 15th to 20th out of a total 45 countries and territories.
The Sport Administration of Vietnam has cooperated with VOC and local authorities to select 64 athletes for special training.
At the meeting, many programs and solutions were discussed to help strengthen the role of VOC and develop the human resource for the 18th ASIAD and the Olympic Games 2016.
In conclusion, Mr. Hoang Tuan Anh emphasized: “To realize all the tasks set out in 2014, Vietnam Olympic Committee should focus on implementing 9 main missions, including the review of the plan for national and international sport events in 2014. Moreover, VOC need to collaborate with Vietnam Sport Administration and related authorities to present the General Plan for the 18th ASIAD and Asian Beach Games in Vietnam to the Government for approval; Focus more on foreign affairs and effectively promote ASIAD as well as important sport events organized in Vietnam”.
