KL2017: 2,000 VOLUNTEERS FOR OPENING & CLOSING CEREMONIES

Some 2,000 “WAU Factor” volunteers will be involved in the Opening and Closing ceremonies of the 29th SEA Games and 9th ASEAN Para Games in August and September, said Chief Executive Officer of Malaysia Organising Committee (MASOC) Kuala Lumpur 2017 Secretariat, Dato’ Seri Zolkples Embong.

Volunteers tasked with both the Opening and Closing ceremonies on underwent specific training by MASOC facilitators and trainers on Saturday (20 May 2017) at the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) Sport Centre in Bangi.

The 29th SEA Games official opening ceremony is slated on 19 Aug while the closing ceremony will be held on 30 Aug. For the 9th ASEAN Para Games, the opening ceremony is set on Sept 17 and the closing ceremony on Sept 23. Some 13,000 volunteers selected for various duties prior and during KL2017 have been undergoing training for the past few months to equip themselves with various knowledge and various related to the biennial Games.

“Today’s training session focuses on volunteers tasked for ​the Opening and Closing ceremonies (OCCs) and to date, we’ve managed to train some 900 volunteers in that specific area,” said Dato’ Seri Zolkples after attending the final phase of the Volunteers Training session at UKM in Bangi.

The KL2017 Volunteers Training Programme started last year, involving some 50 facilitators and trainers in specific modules such as effective communication skills, professional image, protocol and emergency response./.(kualalumpur2017.com.my)
