Lindberg praises cooperation with Tokyo 2020 during NOC workshop
Lindberg praises cooperation with Tokyo 2020 during NOC workshop
30/05/2017 11:42

Gunilla Lindberg has described the cooperation between National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and Tokyo 2020 as being "very good" so far.

The Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) secretary general was speaking during a workshop in Tokyo for representatives from NOCs held as the Games' Organising Committee continue to "fine-tune" preparations in the Japanese capital.

The Olympic Village, accreditation, transportation and food services were among the issues discussed at the event, which began yesterday and concluded today.

During the event, which the International Olympic Committee (IOC) helped plan, Lindberg praised Tokyo 2020 organisers for their efforts before calling on them to heed any concerns or issues raised by the NOCs.

"There are 206 NOCs all over the world - some small, some large - and it is very important that the Organising Committee listens to them, learns from their experiences and explains the concept of the Games," she said.

“One of our main duties is to make the best possible preparations for the athletes coming to the Games, and to that end we are planning to host pre-Games training camps in Japan.

“So far, we have had a very good cooperation with Tokyo 2020.”

The workshop comes after Tokyo 2020 attended various meetings and conferences with members of NOCs across the world.

Delegations from the Organising Committee have visited a number of key events in recent months, such as the Pan American Sports Organization General Assembly in Uruguay last month, where Chile's Neven Ilic was elected President.

Tokyo 2020 also had a presence at the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa General Assembly in Djibouti earlier this month and the European Olympic Committees Seminar in Macedonia last week.

"During our visits to the meetings of the Continental Associations of NOCs, we had constructive dialogues with many members of the Olympic Family," Toru Kobayashi, the head of Tokyo 2020 NOC/NPC services and relations, said.

“We will continue to work closely with the IOC and NOCs to make sure all the athletes’ needs are met”./.(Insidethegames.biz)
