The medals for the Kuala Lumpur 2017 Games were officially unveiled on Tuesday (30 May 2017), marking the official collaboration between Malaysian pewter manufacturer Royal Selangor and Malaysia Organising Committee (MASOC) for the 29th SEA Games and 9th ASEAN Para Games scheduled in August and September respectively.

With 80 days left before the commencement of the KL2017 Games, fans and the public were given a glimpse of the medals which were officially unveiled by Youth and Sports Minister YB Brig Gen Khairy Jamaluddin at Royal Selangor’s headquarters in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur. Royal Selangor will be known as Kuala Lumpur 2017 “Official Medal Partner”.

More than 1,200 gold, silver and bronze medals were created and designed by Royal Selangor specially for the region’s biggest sporting extravaganza which will take place from 19 to 30 August. The 9th ASEAN Para Games is scheduled from 17-23 September.

Royal Selangor’s involvement in the Games started early this year following collaboration with MASOC in the creation and design of the Games baton which were used during the Rising Together Baton Run across all 10 participating nations, which ended on May 13. The Games Torch, currently paraded in the nationwide Torch Run event, was also created and designed by Royal Selangor. The Torch Run started in Johor Bharu on May 13 and ends on August 12 in Kuala Lumpur.

YB Brig Gen Khairy announced that MASOC had exceeded its sponsorship target of RM80 million following today’s sponsorship. “To date, a total sponsorship of RM82.6 million has been raised, exceeding the RM80 million target of sponsorship in the form of cash, product and services. MASOC has managed to raise RM25 million in cash while the overall sponsorship in kind currently stands at RM58 million,” said YB Brig Gen Khairy.

More than 7,000 athletes and officials from 11 countries are expected to compete in the 2017 SEA Games while the ASEAN Para Games will see the participation of more than 2,000 athletes and officials./.(Kualalumpur2017.com.my)
