With Thailand winning 3-1 against Philippines earlier, the defending champions had extended a goal difference of four goals. Initially Thailand's three goal cushion from Rattikan Thongsombut (38th minute), Nisa Romyen (67th) and Pitsamai Sornsai (72nd) had given them a five goal advantage ahead of Vietnam. But all thanks to Philippines defender Long Hali Moriah Candido's consolation goal in the 90th minute, it gave Vietnam hope to climb the distance.
Vietnam, the four-time champion, breezed past Thailand when they had a scoring spree thrashing Malaysia 6-0 to add the gold tally to five - equalling Thailand's record. The Vietnam heroes were Vu Thi Nhung (7th minute), Nguyen Thi Lieu (13th, 79th), Nguyen Thi Muon (40th, 54th), Hunyh Nhu (45th). This is the second time the Vietnam’s female football team wins gold medals in SEA Games since 2009.
According to Mr Tran Quoc Tuan, Vice President of the Vietnam Football Federation, Vietnam’s female football team will receive a money prize of more than VND 4 billion (approximately USD 181,000) for their spectacular efforts.
This money prize comprises the VND 100 million from the Mr Nguyen Ngoc Thien, Minister of Culture, Sport and Tourism and President of Vietnam Olympic Committee, VND 3 billion from the Vietnam Football Federation and over VND 900 million from sponsors of Vietnam Sport. This is the highest money prize that the Vietnam female football has ever received.
