The Vietnam team claimed the champion title with 29 gold medals, 24 silver medals and 36 bronze medals, followed by Indonesia team (runner up) with 9 gold medals, 11 silver medals and 24 bronze and Thailand (third) with 7 gold medals, 5 silver medals and 9 bronze medals.
With regards to the competition in general, Mr. Le Tung Duong, head coach of the Vietnam Karate team said: “With 89 medals that we’ve won, the Vietnam team has exceeded expectation. This is an important step for the team before competing in the 18th Asian Games, to be held from August 18, 2018.”
The tournament gathered more than 300 excellent athletes from seven regional countries: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. The home team prepares itself with 80 athletes. There are 52 medal events which include: kata and kumite, male team, female team, individual (for male and female). There are four age ranges: from 14 to 15 years old, 16 to 17 years old, above 18 years old and under 21 years old.
