Thai Nguyen, Vietnam, June 19, 2018: On the occasion of the 124th anniversary of the founding of the IOC on June 23, 1894, the Vietnam Olympic Committee organised Youth Olympic Day 2018 at Binh Yen High School in Dinh Hoa district, Thai Nguyen province, in coordination with the People's Committee of Dinh Hoa district.

Youth Olympic Day was attended by Mr. Luong Van Lanh, Secretary of the district Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Council of Dinh Hoa district; Mr. Hoang Van Son, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Madame Le Thi Hoang Yen, Deputy General Director of the Vietnam Sports Administration; Mr. Tran Van Manh, General Secretary of Vietnam NOC; and representatives of communes, departments and more than 500 high school students aged from 16 to 18 from ethnic minorities in Binh Yen high school.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Madame Le said: "Youth Olympic Day is organised to create a chance for children to understand the role and significance of Vietnam sport and the international Olympic movement, from which to set up a healthy lifestyle through the Olympic sport activities".

This is the seventh consecutive year VOC has organised this event aimed at contributing to the promotion of the Olympic values in the community, enabling students to understand more about Vietnam and the International Olympic Movement. This will foster passion for sport and encourage children to participate in physical as well as spiritual training.

Activities included a quiz on the Olympic movement, a 1500m run, traditional archery, tug of war, stilt walking and a game of throwing a cotton ball.
