The highest chance for winning gold medals are in shooting (with the participation of 2016 Rio Olympic champion Hoang Xuan Vinh), athletics (Bui Thi Thu Thao) and in swimming (Nguyen Thi Anh Vien).
Vietnam also has high hopes in weightlifting, karate, wushu and pencak silat.
Vietnam’s women volleyball team warms up for Asian Games
Hanoi, Vietnam, August 2, 2018: The Volleyball Federation of Vietnam (VFV) has been preparing intensely for the 18th Asian Games since the start of this year, VFV General Secretary Le Tri Truong told Vietnam News. Truong made the statement at a press conference in Hanoi on Tuesday to promote the upcoming VTV International Women’s Volleyball Cup.
The team has been trained to enhance their teamwork instead of depending solely on a few key players, he added.
The VTV International Women’s Volleyball Cup will run from August 4-11 at Ha Tinh Gymnasium in the central province of Ha Tinh. It is viewed as a warm-up for the players ahead of the 18th Asian Games, which will be held in Indonesia from August 18 to September 2.
Vietnam’s national team is in Group A with Altay (Kazakhstan), Yunnan (China) and Hokkaido University (Japan), while Vietnam’s U19 team is in Group B with North Korea, Sichuan (China) and Taipei National University.
The teams will play a round-robin format, with the top two in each group advancing to the semi-finals.
The winner will receive US$10,000 in prize money, the runners-up US$7,000, third place US$5,000 and fourth place US$2,000.

Vietnamese shooters aim for gold at ASIAD 2018
July 31, 2018: Vietnamese shooters are aiming for gold medals at the upcoming Asian Games in Indonesia.
Team sponsors have promised cash awards amounting to more than VND 2.1 billion (US$90,600) for a gold medal, according to the Vietnam Shooting Federation, with VND 660 million for a silver medal, and VND 376 million for a bronze medal.
Vice Chairman and General Secretary of the Vietnam Shooting Federation Nguyen Thi Nhung said to prepare for the Games, the team has been training and taking part in tournaments since the beginning of this year.
The Vietnamese team has 18 athletes who will compete in the men’s and women’s pistol and rifle, and the men’s skeet and trap events. They will leave for training in South Korea before travelling to Indonesia for the Asian Games.
Vietnam’s highest ever shooting achievement was a gold medal at the 2016 Summer Olympic in Brazil won by Hoang Xuan Vinh in the men’s 10m air pistol. (Vietnamnews.vn)
