The Opening Ceremony of the course (on October 17, 2018) received the attendance of Mr. Tran Van Manh, Secretary General of Vietnam Olympic Committee, Mr. Tran Van Hung, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism in Soc Trang province, Mr. Tran Chi Quan, Director of the National Sport Training Center in Can Tho and other officials from various departments of Soc Trang Province.
In the past years, with the help of the International Olympic Committee and International Federations, the organisation of the sport management courses sharpens the skills and experiences of sport managers in effectively organising sport events and managing sport organisations.
According to the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, in Vietnam, the drowning mortality rate in children has decreased following theGovernment’s efforts. In particular, the number of children died from drowning has dropped from 2200 (in 2015) to 1994 (in 2017) but remains high and is the leading cause of childhood deaths. The Olympic Sports Management and Drowning Prevention course will guide sports managers on how to conduct safe swimming lessons for children and to prevent them from drowning.
The course receives the participation of 60 people consisting of sport managers coming from the South West region of Vietnam. The course covers the following topics: Olympic values, Olympic education, drowning prevention measures,cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid, Elite sport management and Sport for all management. For the practical sessions, course participants will be equipped with methods in organising and managing swimming lessons for children, in avoiding dangers and basic swimming techniques.
