At the 11th minute from the whistle, striker Nguyen Cong Phuong (Number 14) gave the home side the lead with a back heel touch. Phuong also opened the score for Vietnam in its match against Laos on November 8.
Malaysia proved itself a tough opponent for Vietnam as it increased attacks afterwards and earned higher ball possession in the match.

Mr. Le Hung Dung, President of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) decided to award a bonus of VND600 million to the Vietnamese national team for their efforts at the AFF Suzuki Cup 2018.
The award is expected to encourage the team to continue to try all efforts and achieve good result in regional tournament, he said.
In addition to the VFF’s award, the men’s football team has also received a VND500 million reward from private companies, raising the total bonus to VND1.1 billion.
