State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh praised the women’s national football team for their wholehearted dedication in order to claim the SEA Games gold medal for the third consecutive time.

On the evening of May 21, Mai Duc Chung’s side edged past Thailand 1-0 in the final match to successfully defend their SEA Games title. Shortly after the game, State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc sent his compliment to the “Vietnamese golden girls”, praising their tireless efforts to take the overall glory.

The State leader thanked the fans for having enthusiastically cheering the team through each match, especially in the gold medal match, thus motivating the “female warriors” to achieve the proud victory.

In his congratulatory letter, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh voiced his pleasure when the women’s national team took the SEA Games gold medal for the third successive time and for the seventh time in history.

He stated that with bravery, determination, wisdom and a fighting spirit for national pride, the women’s national team shined again and contributed another outstanding gold medal to Vietnam’s prolific 31st SEA Games tally.

There were personal stories of sacrifices and efforts to rise above hardship behind the gold medal of the women’s football team as well as the medals in other sports, the Government leader said, calling on organisations, individuals and businesses to continue caring for and supporting the country’s sports teams.

The Prime Minister congratulated the women’s football team on their victory over Thailand, hailing the triumph as a positive source of inspiration motivating the Vietnamese sports teams to overcome themselves and attain further success./.
