FIFA rankings: Vietnam stabilises in the world's top 100
FIFA rankings: Vietnam stabilises in the world's top 100
29/08/2022 10:56

The Vietnam national team continues to maintain its position in the world's top 100 following the latest FIFA world rankings announced by the world football governing body on August 26.

Specifically, with 1218.84 points, Vietnam has maintained the 97th position, ranking 17th in Asia and 1st in Southeast Asia.

Next to Vietnam in Asia are Kyrgyzstan (95th) and Palestine (94th). Notably, Palestine will send its U20 team to play a friendly with Vietnam U20 on September 3.

Although the results of the youth teams are not part of the FIFA ranking system, the tight gap in the FIFA rankings at the senior team level also promises to create a competitive match between the two teams.

Also, in the rankings of Asian teams, it is not surprising that Iran (world No. 22), Japan (No. 24 in the world) and the Republic Korea (No. 28 in the world) are in the top 3.

Meanwhile, in Southeast Asia, Thailand (the world’s No. 111) continues to be rank 2nd after Vietnam. However, the gap between them on the FIFA world rankings has grown to 14 places.

The following positions are held by: the Philippines (world No. 134), Malaysia (No. 148 in the world), Indonesia (No. 155 in the world), Myanmar (No. 158 in the world), Singapore (No. 159 in the world), Cambodia (No. 174th in the world), Laos (183rd in the world), Brunei (190th in the world) and Timor-Leste (199th in the world).

In the top 10 in the world, Brazil is still the leading team, with 1837.56 points, followed by Belgium, Argentina, France, England, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal and Denmark.

In September, there will be a series of friendly matches under FIFA's schedule (FIFA days), in which Vietnam also has at least 2 official international friendlies.

The results of international matches in the FIFA days belong to FIFA's ranking system, so it will certainly create fluctuations in the September FIFA rankings, which will be announced on October 6./.
