The commemoration ceremony for the founding of the modern Olympic Movement on June 23, 1894 was presided over by Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh, Deputy Director of the General Administration of Sports of Vietnam; Mr. Tran Van Manh, Secretary General of the Vietnam Olympic Committee; Mr. Tran Le Doai, Vice Chairman of the Nam Dinh Provincial People's Committee; Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Director of the Nam Dinh Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism; and other leaders of Hai Hau District.
Most of the near 1,000 runners are students of Hai Hau A School and they ran alongside other citizens living in the district. The most famous runner was Nguyen Thi Huyen, who won 13 gold medals in athletics at the Southeast Asian Games.
Mr. Tran Van Manh said: "This event is a rare opportunity to encourage everyone, regardless of physical condition, age and ability, to work together for a better life and future. The ‘Let's Move’ theme brings us together as friends and communities no matter where we are or how we move.”
Runner Nguyen Thi Huyen read the IOC President's message on behalf of all involved, saying: "When we do sport, it makes us dream, it spreads joy and it brings us together.”
The Vietnam Olympic Committee is one of 130 NOCs celebrating Olympic Day along with 5 million members of the public./.
